NUSS NEWS Fall is here, and I am painting frantically for my still life show in November at American Painting Fine Art in New York City. I expect to have at least a dozen new still life paintings, in a variety of sizes. After the exhibit is over in New York, it will come to the DC location on MacArthur Blvd. sometime mid-January. Next week I will send my painting "Gramp's Attic Books" to Richland Fine Art in Nashville, Tennessee for the prestigious Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition. In November and December, my painting of "Sideling Hill Creek" will be exhibited at the Athenaeum in Alexandria, VA along with nearly 30 other paintings. This exhibition, "Protected Landscapes, Paintings of The Nature Conservancy Preserves" represents a collaboration between TNC and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. You will find details of these exhibitions and others at http://www.barbaranuss.com/calendar.html. Since my last newsletter, I participated in the Paint Easton Plein Air event in Easton, MD in July. The juried artists were there from all over the United States. In addition to plein air painting for four days, there were lectures, banquets, demonstrations, receptions, and an auction to culminate the event. There was also incredible inspiration and camaraderie. I can only hope to be juried in again next year. The first part of September, I spent four days in Elkins WV where I judged the Randolph County Community Arts Center Gala Art Exhibition. In conjunction with that, I gave a two-day workshop in classical still life painting. Then, I spent a gorgeous day painting plein air with some other artists, including my host. The scenery there is spectacular and I came a way with a very satisfactory piece. Again, I enjoyed the inspiration and camaraderie. On my blog http://barbaranuss.blogspot.com/ are recent reflections and paintings from my excursions to Easton, MD and Elkins, WV, followed by step-by-step demonstrations of two of the still life paintings that will be in my show in New York. Lastly, I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted as an artist member of the International Guild of Realism. This international organization dedicated to the advancement of realism in painting recognizes the best realists today by creating exhibition opportunities, providing technical and promotional support and offers a bridge between art collectors and the artists.
