WHY I PAINT LANDSCAPES:
I am a realist seeking the peace and quiet of earlier times. I am fascinated by the undulating hills, the green vistas, the soft blue mountains, and the rich historic areas around me.
Through both my plein air and studio paintings, I try to give an emotional response to these ever vanishing landscapes constantly in danger of suburban crawl.
GALLERY OF LANDSCAPES
The painting at right, Shadowed Gorge, has been juried into the National Oil and Acrylics Society Best of America 2011.
I have three images from the C&O Canal National Historical Park on tour with the 2010 Paint the Parks Top 100. See below in the panel with the Paint the Parks logo.
My landscape paintings begin as plein air sketches. Some I finish in the studio like Shadowed Gorge, Dappled Light, and Spring at Lock 16 . Autumn Connections began as a plein air sketch which I painted on location. Then in the studio, I enlarged and revised it for the final studio painting.
